DIXFIELD — Hart Daley, who has served as selectman for nearly six years, has resigned.

At the selectmen meeting Monday, the board vote 4-0 to accept his resignation.

Town Manager Carlo Puiia read Daley’s resignation letter, dated March 23, which said, in part, “In light of circumstances beyond my control, resulting in numerous scheduling conflicts, I am unable to meet future commitments as a selectman.”

Besides Daley’s resignation, Selectman Gene Skibitsky announced that he will not be seeking a third consecutive term on the board. He served for more than six years as town manager after earlier service as selectman.

Nomination papers for the two selectman positions, and for two RSU 56 school board positions, are due by April 13 at the Town Office.

In other business, following a lengthy discussion the board voted 4-0 to present a proposal to change the town’s Recreation Committee from elected to appointed.

Selectmen will ask townspeople at the annual town meeting on May 31 to approve moving the Recreation Committee under the Board of Selectmen’s umbrella for code of ethics, with the appointed committee to be five members with an alternate. The new committee would become effective July 1.

Currently, Recreation Committee members serve seven-year terms. That would be reduced to three-year terms, staggered over time.

The proposal had the backing of the Recreation Committee, which has been operating with only four members.

Puiia asked current members to consider whether they want to continue as a Recreation Committee in the future or become a parks and recreation committee. Taking on the parks would help the Board of Selectmen with planning on future projects to maintain and improve the parks, he said.

The next budget meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday downstairs in the Ludden Memorial Library. The next selectmen meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. April 9 at the same place.
