Former Lisbon High coaching legend Dick Mynahan will be back on the football sideline this summer.

Mynahan, who retired after the 2016 season with a 30-season record of 209-85, will be the coach of the West team for the 29th annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, to be played Saturday, July 21, at Thornton Academy.

Brunswick head coach Dan Cooper will head the East Squad.

The all-star game pits the state’s top players from the Class of 2018.

“It’s for a great cause but what I like about it is you get the so-called best players in the state playing in an all-star game,” said Cooper, who has twice been an assistant coach. “It’s another game where they get a chance to play and shine and, being a part of it in the past, the atmosphere is awesome.”

Mynahan could not be reached for comment. Current Lisbon coach Chris Kates, who will be on Mynahan’s Lobster Bowl staff, said Mynahan is in Ireland.

This will be the second straight year the Lobster Bowl will be played at Thornton Academy, which hosted the inaugural event in 1990. The game was played at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford from 1992-2016.

Last year the West won, 55-18, extending its all-time advantage to 19-9.

The 2018 West roster is highlighted by the state’s major award winners. Fitzpatrick winner running back/linebacker Owen Garrard of Scarborough will be joined by Fitzpatrick finalists Falmouth quarterback Jack Bryant and Wells running back/linebacker Nolan Potter. The two Gaziano Lineman award winners, Bonny Eagle’s tandem of Zach Klein (offense) and Arlo Pike (defense), are also on the West team that includes quarterback Zoltan Panyi and wide receiver Cody Dudley of Class A champion Scarborough.

The East squad is expected to counter with University of Maine recruits Grant Hartley, a quarterback/punter from Edward Little and Skowhegan wide receiver Jon Bell. Also highlighting the East team are linebacker Adam Bertrand and defensive back David Young of Class C champion Maine Central Institute, dynamic wide receivers Jordan Roddy of Cony and Maxx Bell of Edward Little, defensive back Tanner Bernier of Class A North champion Windham, defensive back/returner Vinnie Pasquali (Portland) and lineman Zeb Leavitt (Cheverus).

Rosters often experience some change between now and the July 15-20 training camp, held at Foxcroft Academy.

The Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl is sponsored by the Kora Shrine and all proceeds from the game benefit the 22 Shrine Hospitals for Children in North America.
