RUMFORD — There’s a local event that happens quarterly throughout the year to celebrate art and artists. Local magician and performer Scot Grassette hosts spring Kaleidoscope Friday, April 13, at 49 Franklin in the Mystic Theater.

Brent Bachelder of Neopolsi Art Studio will be on hand creating art and answering questions about his new studio and classes. Artist Kaylee Martin will be creating art and Liz Murphy will be representing Gypsy Canvas. Local artists who would like to come and join in creating art at Kaleidoscope are welcome and should contact Grassette at [email protected] or 207-369-0129.

Featured performers include First Tracks comprising Chad Haynes, JT Greene and Jeff Arbor, who connected at an open mic jam at Black Mountain Ski area. They have also played at the Buck-It Grill & Pub in Buckfield, The Lure in Rumford and are scheduled for the night after Kaleidoscope, April 14, to play the Hotel Rumford from 7 to 11 p.m. For Kaleidoscope, the trio will dedicate one set entirely to the Ghost of Paul Revere, a local Maine band touring the country playing music described as “Holler Folk.” The trio’s song list is varied and includes Grand Funk Railroad, Sean Mendez, Dave Matthews Band and The Lumineers.

Other performers that night include The Nowlin Sisters, who will take the stage singing and playing their hearts out with classic songs and harmony. Derek Hoyt, whose country-style voice and guitar rocked the winter Kaleidoscope, will be returning. Tom Leclerc will make his solo debut playing alternative ’90s style rock.

In order to promote the arts, share skills, mix and mingle, there is no cover charge for Kaleidoscope. There will be a cash only bar and theater snacks available for purchase. Art and performances start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30.
