LIVERMORE FALLS — Two local teenagers have been charged with stealing half a gallon of Jack Daniels whiskey from Rite Aid on Main Street last month, Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Thursday.
The charges come two weeks after the teens were hospitalized after becoming ill from consuming alcohol, police said previously.
The 15- and 16-year-olds are accused of putting the liquor in a backpack and walking out of the store, Steward said. Each was issued a summons on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking and given notice not to return to Rite Aid, Steward said.
Police and emergency medical responders were called to the back, bottom portion of Central Plaza on Main Street on March 21 for an unresponsive teen. Police found an empty bottle of Jack Daniels at the scene.
The teens and two from Jay, ages 15 and 16, were each issued summonses last month on a charge criminal trespass and a civil violation of a minor consuming alcohol, Steward said.
The Livermore Falls teenagers were taken to hospitals in Farmington and Portland.
A fifth teenager from Jay has not been charged.
The cases are being handled through the Juvenile Court system.
