RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society will hold its first spring meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Rumford Town Hall auditorium. A short business meeting will precede the presentation.

The speaker will be Town Manager Linda Jean (L.J.) Briggs, who will discuss the construction planned for Congress Street and the Island this summer. All persons interested in plans are encouraged to attend.

In consultation with the Rumford Historical Society, she will also present photos of the original installation of the water and sewer lines on Congress Street in 1892. By 1896, Congress Street was operational and many buildings were in existence.

Light refreshments will be served following the meeting.

Members and guests are asked to enter and exit the River Street entrance by the police department.
