Interstate 295 in Freeport was shut down during the Thursday morning commute because of a crash involving multiple vehicles.
The southbound lanes were closed while troopers worked to clear a crash at Mile 21, Maine State Police tweeted shortly after 8 a.m. Police advised drivers to find alternate routes and rerouted cars off I-295 at Exit 22.
All lanes reopened to traffic around 9 a.m., but traffic remained backed up to Brunswick.
A separate crash was reported on the Maine Turnpike around the same time at Mile 48 south between Falmouth and Portland.
No other details were immediately available.
