WILTON — Selectpersons on Tuesday approved bids for town improvements, wage increases and a new police cruiser.

To pay for the Recreation Department’s new office building, the board accepted a bid from Franklin Savings Bank for a loan. The interest rate of the loan will be 3.49 percent, and the town will make one payment per year in the amount of just over $33,000 for three years.

Those working in the Fire and Recreation departments of the town will receive raises, in response to a statewide minimum-wage increase. Those who were making under minimum wage are now making $10 per hour, and those who were making above minimum wage will receive an extra dollar per hour.

Board members accepted a bid from Quirk Ford in Augusta for the purchase of a new police cruiser. The total cost of the cruiser is about $29,000, minus $5,500 the town will receive for the trade-in of the old cruiser. Irish said it typically takes six to eight weeks for the town to receive the vehicle.

In other business, a public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 15 and will take place at the Public Safety building on Main Street. The town will consider the application of Lebaron Bonney, an automotive upholstery business, for an economic development program through the Community Development Block Grant program.

Voting on the school budget will take place the same day, from 8 a.m to 7 p.m in the Town Office.

Town Manager Rhonda Irish said the new wastewater treatment plant on Davis Court is nearing completion.

“Most of the vendors have left and most of the construction trailers have been removed. We’re waiting on the installation of the generator, as well as landscaping work,” Irish said.
