WILTON — The weekend overdose death of a Wyman Township man led to the arrest of a Temple Road man Wednesday.
Dennis Ayala, 55, was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Wilton Police Department on a charge of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.
“We are not implicating Ayala in the death of the OD victim,” Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said. “However, information we received at the scene led investigators to (Ayala).”
Officials did not release the overdose victim’s name.
On Sunday, officials responded to a report that a Wyman Township man died from a narcotic overdose. State police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency were notified, and Detective Stephen Charles of the Sheriff’s Office continued the investigation.
According to authorities, Charles developed leads on the possible source of the drugs and obtained a search warrant for Ayala’s residence.
Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox and the Sheriff’s Office conducted the search and arrested Ayala. The investigation was ongoing Thursday.
