BUCKFIELD — Julia Dow and Cara Merrill combined for a solid effort Monday as Buckfield edged Old Orchard Beach 11-10 in a hard-fought softball contest. 

Cassidy Hart, Hannah Shields and Carly Trimm pounded out two hits each for the Bucks, while Maggie Bragg ripped a double and a single.

Bragg stole home in the fifth inning to tie the contest. Trimm smacked an RBI single to plate Shields for the winning run. 

Lake Region 12, Fryeburg 10

FRYEBURG — Haley Fernald smashed a three-run home run in the sixth inning to give Lake Region a 12-10 victory over Fryeburg in softball action Monday.

Fernald led the Lakers with two home runs and five RBIs.

Morgan Fusco and Paige O’Connell led the Raiders with three hits each.  

Sacopee Valley 3, Poland 1

SOUTH HIRAM — Brynn Hill struck out a pair of batters and received adequate run support as Sacopee Valley rolled to a 3-1 early season softball win over Poland on Monday. 

Haiden Sawyer led the Hawks (1-0) with an RBI single, while Chloe Tufts led the Knights (1-2) with a pair of singles. Kaira Thibault also contributed for Poland with an RBI single.  

Monmouth 12, Wiscasset 0

MONMOUTH — Emily Chasse gave up three hits in five innings of work and drew ample run support as the Monmouth softball overpowered Wiscasset 12-0 on Monday.

The Mustangs (1-0) put seven runs on the board in the first frame before easing off the gas. Hailey Langlois belted out two hits with two RBIs, while Abby Flanagan also pounded out two hits and drove in one run. 

Sydney Bayer started in the circle for Wiscasset (0-2) and suffered the loss. 

Medomak Valley 9, Leavitt 6

TURNER — Medomak Valley scored three runs in the final frame to pull out a 9-6 softball victory over Leavitt on Monday. 

Hallie Kanush and Emily Wotton led Medomak with two hits and two RBIs each. Annika Mitchell led the Hornets with two hits and three RBIs.

Addie Jameson allowed nine hits while earning the win, while Emily Swan took the loss for Leavitt.

Oak Hill 11, Spruce Mountain 2

JAY — Oak Hill scored in all seven innings of a well-rounded attack to grab an 11-2 victory over Spruce Mountain in softball action Monday afternoon.

Sadie Waterman picked up two hits and earned the win for the Raiders (2-0). Makala Smith, Kiera Young and Rhylie Swan produced two hits each for Oak Hill.

Hannah Turcotte suffered the pitching loss for the Phoenix (0-1) in their season opener.

Gray-New Gloucester 13, Traip 1

GRAY — Izzy Brindley had an RBI double in the fifth inning to score Allie Martell and round out the 13-1 victory of Gray-New Gloucester over Traip in softball action Monday afternoon.

The Patriots scored eight times in the second inning.

Jen McClusky had an RBI single in the first inning to briefly put the Rangers ahead 1-0.

Lisbon 7, Carrabec 2

NORTH ANSON — Sam LeBeau, Ashley Cates and Bailey Dunphy each had hits for the Cobras, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Greyhounds in North Anson on Monday.

Carrabec falls to 0-1.

Carly Drischler and Giana Russo each smacked doubles for Lisbon (1-0).

Baseball

Mt. Abram 6, Telstar 5

SALEM — Nate Luce singled in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and secured the win in relief as Mt. Abram dispatched Telstar 6-5 in baseball action Monday afternoon.

Ben Debiase had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Roadrunners (1-1).

Tyler Hill had a pair of hits for the Rebels (0-1) in the losing effort.

Lisbon 18, Boothbay 0

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — D.J. Douglass went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs as Lisbon crushed Boothbay 18-0 in baseball action Monday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (1-0) took an early 8-0 lead in the first inning. Levi Levesque contributed a double, an RBI and scored twice in the contest.

The Seahawks (0-2) managed only three hits in the losing effort.

Gray-New Gloucester 20, Waynflete 0

GRAY — Junior catcher Nick McCann roped a triple along with a pair of singles for four RBIs as Gray-New Gloucester cruised to a 20-0 victory over Waynflete in baseball action Monday.

The Patriots (1-0) put 11 runs on the board in the third inning. Senior shortstop Eli Winchester contributed a double and two singles for an RBI for Gray-New Gloucester.

Second baseman Jack Cloutier collected the lone hit for the Flyers (0-1) in the losing effort.

Sacopee Valley 8, Poland 7

SOUTH HIRAM — Austin Eastman ripped an RBI double in the sixth inning to give Sacopee Valley a narrow 8-7 win over Poland in an early season baseball tilt Monday.

Dylan Miner led the Hawks (1-0) with two hits and two RBIs, while Eastman belted out a pair of hits. Peter Gates contributed two hits and one RBI for Sacopee.

The Knights (0-3) were led by Colby Bell with three hits and three RBIs, while Brady Downing belted out two hits and drove in two runs. Adrian Melanson added two hits and one RBI.
