BETHEL — Mahoosuc Land Trust will offer two new opportunities to get outside. 2018 is the Year of the Bird, and in recognition of that, MLT is offering a series of bird walks.

Get to know the local birds by joining James Reddoch, MLT member and birding enthusiast, at Valentine Farm Conservation Center, 162 North Road, at 8 a.m. Saturdays, May 5 and 19. The trust hopes to document all of the bird species on Valentine Farm. Experience is not required, and there are binoculars available for use. The walk will be along a flat, gentle trail with good access to water, field and forest habitats.

A pollinator garden will be created at Valentine Farm. The effort is part of Mahoosuc Land Trust’s plan to develop Valentine Farm as a center for nature study and outdoor activities.

A two-part gardening course on the basics of pollinators and designing beneficial gardens will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, May 14 and 21, at the farm. All are welcome to help plan, plant and maintain the garden during weekly work nights throughout the season. Class participation is not required to volunteer in the garden.

To learn more and to register for the class, call Mahoosuc Land Trust at 207-824-3806.
