LEWISTON — Helen L. (Gravel) Dionne, 71, a resident of d’Youville Pavilion, passed away Tuesday, May 1, surrounded by her loving family, after her courageous battle with lung and brain cancers.

She was born Feb. 19, 1947, in Lewiston, the daughter of Anne Marie (Lebel) Gravel and the late Hector Gravel Sr. On June 12, 1965, Helen married the late Dolor (Junior) Dionne, and together raised three children.

She was a stay-at-home mom, then later worked at Knapp Shoe and Acorn Shoe shops. She worked at BJ’s attending a sampling station, then the deli departments at Walmart and Hannaford.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed ice skating, swimming, dancing, bingo, card games and camping with many of her family. She loved gardening and most of all her two dogs, Missy and Chico.

Helen is survived by her mother, Anne; her daughters, Susan Vaillancourt, Anita Dionne and companion, Gary Langlais; her son, Steven Dionne, and companion, Amber Ferrol; her grandchildren, Jennifer Dionne, Aaron and Mariah Vaillancourt, and Kaja Dionne; one great-grandchild, Mia; her sisters, Prudence and Paul Beaudoin Sr., Diane and Denis Beaulieu, Anne and Greg Johnson; brothers, Hector and Monique Gravel, and James and Shelley Gravel.

She was predeceased by her father, Hector Gravel Sr.; husband, Dolor; sisters, Cecile and Dolores; and a brother, Richard.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at d’Youville Pavilion and Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice facilities who took great care of her and showed her much compassion during her stay.
