I have seen examples of road rage being reported in the news lately. I’m happy that it is being brought to light.

My daily commute is only six miles each way from Auburn to Lewiston — starting at around 6 a.m. and returns in the ballpark of 4 p.m. On the way to work, I’m confronted with drivers turning left from Turner Street onto Court Street. They choose the inside turn lane and then race across the bridge, only to move to the right lane in order to make a right onto Lincoln Street, often squeezing back into traffic.

The afternoon commute is a NASCAR event. People turn from Lincoln Street in the inside left lane and try to race across the bridge, only to squeeze into the right lane. From there, they either choose the sane right turn onto Turner Street or play light roulette and turn early onto Great Falls Plaza and speed through this “shortcut” to beat the light at Hampshire Street.

From there, things get a little faster. The choice of turning left only onto Turner Street or illegally go straight through the light is just too tempting for some. Others that are in the correct right-hand lane try to make a daring pass and switch to the left lane while going through the intersection.

Now going up Center Street, it’s a game of Frogger, while switching lane to lane at accelerated speeds.
