HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Brendan Rodgers hit two home runs and drove in five runs, as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 12-4 on Sunday. With the victory, the Yard Goats swept the four-game series.
Rodgers hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning off Yankory Pimentel and then hit a solo homer in the seventh off Trey Ball. Ryan Metzler homered and singled, scoring two runs in the win.
Hartford starter Jesus Tinoco (4-2) picked up the win despite allowing four runs and six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Matthew Kent (0-1) took the loss in the Eastern League game after giving up two runs and two hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Hartford took advantage of some erratic Portland pitching, drawing a season-high eight walks in its victory.
Josh Ockimey homered and singled, driving home three runs for the Sea Dogs.
Hartford improved to 9-2 against Portland this season.
