AUBURN — Local police are advising people that someone claiming to be collecting donations in honor of Auburn police is a scam.
“The Auburn Police Department does not solicit donations over the phone, especially to benefit ourselves,” a message on the Police Department Facebook page said. “Maine law enforcement agencies are forbidden by law to do so.”
People have reported getting these calls.
Police advised anyone receiving such calls to immediately hang up.
