A free entertainment — and a mighty good one, too — will be given in the Empire theater on Friday night under the auspices of the Public News Bureau of the American Red Cross. W. T. Moran, vice chairman of the forthcoming drive in Lewiston-Auburn, received word today that moving pictures actually taken at the battlefront have been sent here in response to the a request of the local committee. These eight reels are photographed from real life. There is not one scene especially staged and nothing more graphic, more instructive or more interesting has ever been shown in Lewiston.

Federal aviation officials today assured Lewiston-Auburn government and business leaders that the Auburn-Lewiston Airport has top priority where any improvements in Maine are concerned. The assurance was given at a special meeting this morning attended by members of Auburn-Lewiston Airport Committee, and businessmen and legislators. At the meeting, a step-by-step program covering the next few months was set up, through which the airport committee can start planning improvements and get state and federal funds.

The Lewiston City Council will hold its final public hearing Tuesday on the 1993-94 Community Development Block Grant program, and vote on amending the current program to allocate $10,000 for a Tall Pines playground. Lewiston will receive $1,073,000 in CDBG funds for the coming year. The single biggest chunk of money, $200,000, will go to revitalization of the city-owned Bates Mill. The rest will be disbursed to about 50 agencies and city programs, including Head Start’s Childhood Enrichment, American Red Cross disaster relief and Kennedy Park swimming pool rehabilitation. If the council approves the $10,000 proposed for Tall Pines, half of it will come from a past year’s funding for a Cote Street playground design and half from current money for Sunnyside Park basketball court improvements.
