POLAND — Cooper Millett launched a solo shot for the game-winning run as Lewiston dispatched Poland 7-6 in eight innings Friday evening.

The Knights (1-9) took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth and improved it to 6-4 in the next home frame. Brady Downing had three hits for Poland.

The Blue Devils (6-3) stiffened up the defense in the latter innings and then scored a single run in each the sixth, seventh and eighth. Jack Leblond produced two doubles for Lewiston in the winning effort.

Spruce Mountain 11, Winthrop 6

WINTHROP — Spruce Mountain built a five-run advantage in the first three frames and hung on to record an 11-6 mid-season baseball win over Winthrop on Friday.

Jackson Ladd led the Ramblers (4-4) with three hits including a triple, while Ryan Baird also belted out three hits. Logan Moffitt contributed with three hits, while Jordy Daigle ripped a pair of hits.

Nick Lombardi picked up the mound win, while Greg Fay suffered the loss.

Oxford Hills 3, Greely 2

PARIS — Wyatt Williamson belted a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give Oxford Hills a 3-2 mid-season baseball win over Greely on Friday.

Williamson’s key two-bagger drove in Rodney Bean from second base. Colton Carson picked up his third mound win of 2018 for the Vikings (7-2) with a solid performance.

Will Neleski suffered the loss for Greely (6-4) after working all seven innings.

Mtn. Valley 4, Bridgeway 3

RUMFORD — The Falcons struck for three runs in the third inning, including the eventual game-winner, as Mountain Valley edged Bridgeway 4-3 in baseball action Friday afternoon.

Fisher Cormier and Garrett Garbarini had back-to-back singles in the third inning for the Falcons (6-2). Hunter Ames tripled down the right field line to drive them both in, before Ames scored the eventual game-winning run on Dylan Desroches groundout.

The Bulldogs (5-4) rallied for three in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Evan Bess’s two-RBI triple. But, Bridgeway came up short.

Oak Hill 21, Wiscasset 7

WALES — Ethan Barnett and Samuel Lindsay plated three runs each as Oak Hill had two big innings for a 21-7 triumph over Wiscasset 21-7 in baseball action Friday afternoon.

The Raiders put eleven and ten runs on the board in the first and third innings, respectively. Casey Dion scored four times without managing a single hit for the proliferous Raiders.

The Wolverines made a dent in the 11-0 deficit with five runs of their own in the top of the third inning. But, Oak Hill responded with ten runs in the bottom of the frame.

Senior Ronald Drake went 3-for-3 and scored twice for Wiscasset in the losing effort.

Girls’ lacrosse

St. Dom’s 21, Morse 5

AUBURN — Caroline Gastonguay scored five goals and dished off 10 assists to lead St. Dom’s to a 21-5 girls’ lacrosse rout over Morse.

Charlotte Gastonguay chipped in for the Saints with five goals and two assists, while Mia-Angelina Leslie added five goals and one assist. Avery Lutrzykowski also contributed with two goals and four assists, while Emma Theriault scored twice. Single tallies from Riliegh Stebbins and Maddy Leslie completed the scoring.

Slmone Long made four saves for St. Dom’s.

Falmouth 5, Lewiston 3

LEWISTON — Emily Hamilton notched a pair of goals as Falmouth leap-frogged Lewiston 5-3 in girls’ lacrosse action Friday evening.

The Yachtsmen (6-2) led 4-2 at halftime. Jo Stucker contributed a goal and an assist, while Kayla Sarazin assisted on three goals for Falmouth.

Grace Dumond scored a goal and an assist for the Blue Devils (4-2)..

Goalie CeCe Racine made 20 saves for Lewiston, while goalie Hannah Dubinsky prevented nine to earn the win in net for Falmouth.

Portland 20, Edward Little 8

PORTLAND — Morgan Kierstead netted six goals as Portland cruised to a 20-8 victory over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Friday evening.

Six Bulldogs (6-2) players scored at least two goals. Annika More compiled three.

Piper Norcross tabulated three goals and two assists for the Red Eddies (1-4).

Goalie Abby Kriechaus made seven saves for Portland, while goalie Erin Anderson had three saves out of 23 shots for Edward Little.

Oak Hill 16, Wiscasset 0 (5 inn.)

WALES — Molly Flaherty and reliever Sadie Waterman scattered three hits and drew ample run support as Oak Hill overpowered Wiscasset 16-0 in a mid-season softball contest Friday.

Mahala Smith, Waterman and Abby Nadeau led the Raiders (7-1) with two hits and three hits each. Julia Noel belted a pair of hits including an RBI triple.

August Moore suffered the loss for Wiscasset (2-6) after working all five frames.

Monmouth 17, Dirigo 3

MONMOUTH — Emily Chasse belted two hits and drove in four runs as Monmouth rolled to a 17-3 victory over Dirigo in more local softball action Friday.

Mariah Herr earned the pitching win for Monmouth (5-3) and helped hew own cause with a pair of hits. Haylee Langlois also contributed with two RBI.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first frame and were never challenged.

Oxford Hills 7, Greely 0

PARIS — Lauren Merrill and Sydney Crocker scattered four hits and received adequate run support as Oxford Hills hustled to a 7-0 midseason softball win over Greely on Friday.

Ashley Childs, Madison Day, Kenzie Kahkonen and Haley Dillingham all had two hits for the Vikings.

Kelsey Currier led Greely with a pair of singles and also took the loss.

Lewiston 5, Poland 2

POLAND — Lewiston built a two-run advantage in the first three innings and hung on to record a 5-2 victory over Poland in another mid-season softball tilt on Friday.

Meagan Gosselin led the Blue Devils (7-2) with two hits and one RBI, while Jordan Mynahan chipped in with a pair of hits and one RBI. Chloe Tufts led the Knights (5-4) with an RBI single in the second inning. Danielle Carr belted a sacrifice fly to center that plated Tufts in the bottom of the second.

Megan Theriault picked up the win for Lewiston, while Ally Gagne took the loss.

Madison 18, Mtn. Valley 0

RUMFORD — Morgan Hall and Stephanie LeBlanc posted two singles and a triple each as Madison rolled to an 18-0 victory over Mountain Valley in softball action Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored 16 runs in the first three innings. Pitcher Laura LeBlanc earned the two-hit shutout for Madison.

The Falcons committed seven errors over five innings of play. Senior right fielder Nicole McKenna contributed a double for Mountain Valley in the losing effort.
