JAY — Freshman Abby Ortiz had a walk-off bases-loaded double in the 12th inning as Spruce Mountain topped Lisbon 12-11 in softball action Friday afternoon.

The Greyhounds gave up three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but came back for a pair in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Mallory Fairbanks collected three hits on a pair of doubles and a triple for Lisbon.

The Phoenix (7-4) outhit Lisbon 21-14 in the game. Juju Doiron, Hannah Turcotte and Ortiz had four hits each for Spruce Mountain in the winning effort.

Mt. Abram 15, Mountain Valley 14

SALEM — Mt. Abram scored three runs in the seventh inning to pull out a narrow 15-14 softball win over Mountain Valley on Friday.

Baylor McLaughlin led the Roadrunners with three hits, including a double. Maddie Phelps belted out three hits, while Abby Holland belted two doubles.

Audra Bean paced the Falcons with a double. Gabbie Gallant and Gracie Farnum each ripped a single.

Hailey Walker earned the win for Mt. Abram, while Bean suffered the loss.

Poland 9, Lake Region 6

POLAND — Catcher Chloe Tufts had three singles, a double and two RBIs to lead Poland to a 9-6 victory over Lake Region in softball action Friday afternoon.

The Knights (6-6) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and added five more runs to make it 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Shelby LaFrinea contributed two singles, a double and three RBIs for Poland.

The Lakers (5-8) were paced by Julia Murch (two hits) and Mindy Murphy (a double, single and three RBIs) in the losing effort.

Hampden 3, Lewiston 1

HAMPDEN — Erin Mitchell had a home run as Hampden pulled out a 3-1 victory over Lewiston in softball action Friday afternoon.

Pitcher Sydney Hatch and catcher Emily Dysart contributed a double each for the Broncos.

Catcher Meagan Gosselin went 3-for-3 with three singles for the Blue Devils in the losing effort.

Traip 4, Buckfield 3

BUCKFIELD — A three-run rally in the sixth inning was enough to give Traip a narrow 4-3 victory over Buckfield in a softball tilt Friday.

Cala McEllin led Traip with two hits, and Reilly Eddy belted out a double and a single.

Hannah Shields belted a triple for the Bucks, while Cassidy Hart smacked a double.

Eddy earned the pitching win for Traip, while Cara Merrill suffered the loss for Buckfield.

Leavitt 2, Mt. Blue 0

FARMINGTON — Annika Mitchell and Mallory Casey each drove in a run on Friday as Leavitt eased its way to a 2-0 softball win over Mt. Blue.

Mitchell led the Hornets with two doubles and that valued RBI, while Casey belted a pair of singles and drove in that insurance run.

Emily Swan scattered four hits to earn the win, while Adelle Foss took the loss.

Baseball

Monmouth 2, Oak Hill 1

MONMOUTH — Monmouth plated a run in the first and second innings and managed to hold on for a 2-1 baseball win over Oak Hill on Friday. 

Trevor Flanagan ripped an RBI single in the first for Monmouth (7-4), while the game-winner was scored on an error. Pitcher Nick Dovinsky scattered three hits in seven innings to earn the win. 

Reid Cote led the Raiders (3-8) with an RBI double in the first and finished with a pair of hits overall. Casey Dion went the distance on the mound for Oak Hill.

Mountain Valley 7, Mt. Abram 4

RUMFORD — Ethan Laubauskas gave up just six hits and struck out 10 as Mountain Valley rolled to a 7-4 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC baseball action Friday. 

Hunter Ames led the Falcons (8-3) with three hits and three RBIs, highlighted by a home run.

Nate Luce suffered the loss for Mt. Abram (5-7). He also belted an RBI double. 

Winthrop 13, Dirigo 7

WINTHROP — Ryan Baird scattered seven hits in seven innings and drew more-than-adequate run support as Winthrop hustled to a 13-7 baseball victory over Dirigo on Friday.

Baird helped the Ramblers (8-4) with a double and two singles, while Jackson Ladd belted a double and a single.

Chase Theberge led the Cougars (4-8) with a pair of hits.  Starter Cooper Chiasson took the loss after working the first four innings. 

Lake Region 3, Poland 2

POLAND — Catcher Cody Allen had an RBI single in the fifth, and a Poland error allowed a deciding run in the seventh as Lake Region swamped Poland 3-2 in baseball action Friday afternoon.

Brady Downing produced a two-run double in the home half of the seventh for the Knights (1-12). But Poland succumbed to the error committed in the top half of the frame.

Isaac Holland earned the mound victory for the Lakers (5-8).

Oxford Hills 4, Skowhegan 1

SKOWHEGAN — Janek Luksza knocked in the eventual game-winning run and went the distance on the mound with no walks and five strike outs as Oxford Hills battled to a 4-1 triumph over Skowhegan in baseball action Friday evening.

The Vikings (10-2) were trailing 1-0 before they came to the plate in the fifth inning. Luksza singled in Hunter LaBossiere for Oxford Hills’ second run of the inning.

Junior catcher Aiden Louder had three singles and the lone RBI for the Indians (6-6) in the losing effort.

Girls’ lacrosse

Thornton 12, Lewiston 3

LEWISTON — Mackenzie Basile and Alana Pettaway scored four goals each Friday to propel Thornton Academy to a 12-3 girls’ lacrosse rout over Lewiston. 

Cat Menaire registered a hat trick for Thornton, and a single goal by Addy Paradise completed the scoring.

Rachel Ouellette led the Blue Devils with two goals, and Christine Chasse scored one. 

Dana Sirois made 13 saves for Thornton. CeCe Racine turned aside 14 shots between the posts for Lewiston.
