RANGELEY — Shane St. Pierre compiled six hits and three RBIs over the course of two games as Buckfield swept Rangeley, 11-1 and 6-1, in doubleheader baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Bucks jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in the first game, and earned the win after five innings with an 11-1 margin and the mercy rule. Rick Kraske and Zach Grover had a pair of hits and knocked in three runs each.

In the second game, Grover went 3-for-4, while Kraske performed the mound duties. Kraske got the complete game win with 11 strikeouts.

The Lakers got a single run in the early innings of each game, but couldn’t mount much offense. Cal Crosby and Kyle LaRochelle had a single each for Rangeley.

Mountain Valley 12, Telstar 6

RUMFORD — Sophomore Fischer Cormier smacked three hits as Mountain Valley dispatched Telstar 12-6 in baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (9-3) responded to Telstar’s four-run first inning with seven runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Curtis Gauvin had a two-run home run in the second inning as Mountain Valley added another four runs.

With the Falcons leading 11-5 after two innings, the scoring slowed to just a single run for each team in the sixth inning.

Blake Rothwell had three hits for the Rebels (2-7) in the losing effort.

Softball

Buckfield sweeps Rangeley

RANGELEY — Buckfield plated 10 runs in a single inning in each game of a doubleheader to sweep Rangeley, 20-5 and 15-3, in softball action Saturday afternoon.

Julia Dow had a solid outing in Game 1, striking out eight in the circle and slapping four hits around the diamond.

Cara Merrill, who had two singles in the first game, recorded three hits to assist her pitching victory in Game 2. Hannah Shields had two doubles in the first game, and poked a pair of singles in the second game.

Sophomore Olivia Pye suffered the loss in both battles for Rangeley.

Girls’ lacrosse

Edward Little 15, Westbrook 8

AUBURN — Junior Megan Steele scored the 100th goal of her career on the second of five tallies as Edward Little cruised to a 15-8 victory over Westbrook in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday.

The Red Eddies (4-5) led 10-8 at the half. Piper Norcross contributed four goals and two assists for Edward Little.

Junior Alexis Witham recorded five goals for the Blue Blazes (1-7).

Goalie Sydney Cole made eight saves for Westbrook, while Erin Anderson prevented nine to earn the win in net for Edward Little.

Boys’ lacrosse

Oxford Hills 16, St. Dom’s 12

AUBURN — Devin Dumais netted five goals as Oxford Hills slid to a 16-12 victory over St. Dom’s in boys’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings (2-8) doubled up the Saints (0-9) in the first two quaters with 6-3 tallies and a 12-6 hafltime lead. Tom Bancroft and Zavir Balzone contributed three goals each in the game.

Will Fletcher posted a game-high seven goals for St. Dom’s.

Goalie Nate Plourde made nine saves for Oxford Hills, while Ben Fluery stopped 13 for St. Dom’s.

Gorham 16, Edward Little 4

AUBURN — Attachman Connor Dougherty registered four goals and three assists as Gorham sailed to a 16-4 triumph over Edward Little in boys’ lacrosse action Saturday.

The Rams (4-5) led 10-3 at the midpoint. Jake Dupuis tallied four goals and two assists for Gorham.

Senior midfielder Spencer Frahn had a goal and an assist for the Red Eddies (3-6). Goalie Gunnar Winslow made 10 saves for Edward Little.
