[UPDATE: Oak Hill High School to reopen Friday after threat closed school]
WALES — Oak Hill High School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon following a threat scrawled on a bathroom wall, school officials said.
The school will be closed Thursday as a result.
Regional School Unit 4 Superintendent Andrew Carlton wrote, in a message to parents: “This afternoon at 4 p.m., it was reported to the high school administration that there was a statement written on the bathroom stall wall that indicated the potential for a threat to the school tomorrow. At that time, we called the state police and at the advice of the police, for precautionary measures, we decided to evacuate the campus and cancel school for tomorrow.
“Currently, we have met with state police and they will be on-site tomorrow with the K-9 unit to inspect the building and work with us as we investigate this situation further. At this time, we are planning to open school on Friday with a police presence on-site at Oak Hill High School for added safety and security.”
According to one witness, a softball game at the high school was wrapping up Wednesday afternoon when Athletic Director Jim Palmer ordered people out of the school and off the ball field because of the threat.
Palmer declined to speak about the situation Wednesday night.
