The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has fed the mouths of thousands of low-income citizens of Maine for years.

As of recently, Rep. Bruce Poliquin has proposed plans and implemented polices that plan to cut SNAP funding and make it more difficult for individuals to access SNAP’s resources. Poliquin believes this would force individuals to become more independent, instead of allowing them to sit in the comfort of the government’s aid.

It is no coincidence that Poliquin wants to take this course of action.

In order to preserve the wealth of the 1 percent of America’s richest members, Poliquin has chosen to co-sponsor $7.4 billion in cuts, not only to SNAP but in the Children’s Health Insurance Program as well.

This strategy is not the answer, and statistics show this would only hurt the nation.

We must stop Poliquin from making these cuts.
