SANDY RIVER PLANTATION — Franklin County deputies are looking for the driver of a truck that went off Route 4 and down an embankment near Smalls Falls on Sunday morning.

Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said a witness reported the driver received facial injuries and fled the scene.

Photos on Rangeley Fire and Rescue Department’s Facebook page show the red truck stopped near the waterfalls.

Deputy Derrick Doucette responded to the accident at about 7:17 a.m. 

The vehicle is registered to a man from New Portland, Nichols said via email.

The case is under investigation, he said. The driver will be charged with of leaving the scene of an accident  and failing to make oral or written report of an accident, according to Nichols.

A conviction on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000. A conviction on a charge of failing to make a report carries a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Rangeley Fire Rescue Department and a NorthStar EMS ambulance responded.
