HARTFORD — A Tuesday afternoon fire off Mountain View Drive burned more than 2 acres of woods, according to Canton Fire Chief Jason Vaughan.

He said no buildings or other structures were involved in the fire that was called in about 2:30 p.m.

The fire was knocked down by 9 p.m. Tuesday, but Vaughan said crews would be going back to the scene Wednesday to investigate.

Mike Darling, who was at the fire scene, said he owns most of the property that burned. He said he was in Winthrop when his brother called to inform him of the blaze.

Firefighters from Canton, Sumner, Turner, Hebron, Norway, Paris, West Paris and Buckfield were called to battle the flames. The Maine Forestry Service also assisted.

The forest fire danger in Oxford County was moderate Tuesday, according to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
