GREENE — The Downeasters Chorus, an a cappella barbershop men’s group from Yarmouth, will perform at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road.

The Downeasters Chorus will compete in the 2018 International Finals of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Orlando in early July. They will be one of 30 choruses competing, out of more than 700 Barbershop Harmony Society chapters in the U.S. and Canada and many more overseas.

This will be the third time since 2009 the Downeasters have qualified to represent the Northeast District at the International Competition.

Chorus performances include the chorus, with 35 to 45 performers typically onstage, interspersed with appearances by several of its award-winning quartets. Songs are drawn from show tunes, movie scores, holiday tunes, jazz standards and popular music over many decades, all performed in four-part a cappella harmony.

The chorus has received funding grants from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Admission is free. FMI: call 207-946-5311, visit sawyer-foundation.com or www.facebook.com/sawyer.foundation1937.
