SOUTH PARIS — Celebration Barn Theater, 190 Stock Farm Road, will present “Laugh Til You Die” by physical comedian Tom Murphy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
Accident-prone and dangerously funny, Murphy kicks the art of solo-performance into overdrive. When he turned 60 last year he started having “The Dream,” which launched his new show.
In “The Dream,” Tom is 86 years old. He’s out there, in front of an audience, ready to rumble with the marvelously manic moves that have been his stock and trade for nearly 40 years. A slip lands him flat on his back. And though he tries to flail, his body fails. So Tom is on a quest. How can he continue to practice the slapstick physical comedy that he loves even when he’s 90?
“This transition I am going through, this thing called aging, that is what I’m doing this show about,” he said. “Laugh Til You Die” features many characters and sketches: an 86-year-old, an evangelical preacher, and a plate-spinner a la “The Ed Sullivan Show” as well as a bit of video from Murphy’s early shows.
He’s considered one of the top slapstick comedians alive today.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors 60 and older and $8 for those 17 and younger. All tickets are general admission; members receive priority seating. Lobby and concessions open at 6:30 p.m. Purchasing tickets in advance is strongly recommended.
