PARIS — Paris Public Library’s Novel Idea Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, to watch “The Breadwinner.”
The section is based on a recent club selection. The animated film is rated PG-13 for some violence.
The film compliments Deborah Ellis’ realistic junior fiction trilogy of “The Breadwinner,” “Parvana’s Journey” and “Mud City.” The main character, Parvana, is an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy to support her family.
Working alongside her friend Shauzia, Parvana discovers a new world of freedom along with much danger. With undaunted courage, Parvana draws strength from the fantastical stories she invents to survive, as she embarks on a quest to find her father and reunite her family.
The Novel Idea Book Club consists of adults and young adults reading, learning and sharing their opinions in an easy and laid-back environment.
The club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. Refreshments and a token gift related to each selection are offered each month. New members are welcome.
