The chairman of the Litchfield Board of Selectmen was re-elected Tuesday, defeating two challengers who together received about 50 percent of the vote, according to unofficial election results.

The chairman, Mark Russell, received 371 votes Tuesday, according to the unofficial tally. The other two candidates, Renee Lachapelle and Richard “Ric” Swett, received 252 and 124 votes, respectively.

Russell ran for re-election, touting his experience and record of keeping tax increases low during his previous years of service. Lachapelle and Swett both argued that change was needed in the local leadership.

Swett also ran for positions on the Regional School Unit 4 board and the Litchfield Academy board of trustees. He lost both of those elections to Joan Thomas, an incumbent who received nearly two-thirds of the vote in each race.
