LIVERMORE FALLS — A deadly fire Tuesday night at a Main Street house started in the first-floor living room and spread quickly through the 2½-story house, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The cause of the fire is undetermined because of the extensive damage to the building, according to a news release Thursday.

The man who died is believed to be Peter Dyer, 66, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Dyer lived with his niece, Amy Mosher, and her husband, Robert, their children and a family friend.

Amy Mosher said Wednesday that the man who died was her uncle, Peter Dyer.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office is completing additional testing to establish a positive identification, according to a release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. 

The Moshers’ sons, Collin, 13, and Brayden, 11, had to jump from an upper-story window to escape the flames. 

About 50 firefighters from seven towns, police and emergency medical responders assisted at the scene Tuesday night.
