WALDOBORO — Two people were severely burned in an explosion and fire in at a home in Waldoboro Thursday evening.
The explosion on Dutch Neck Road was reported at about 8:28 p.m., and when firefighters arrived at the scene the structure was fully engulfed in flames and two severely burned people were standing outside, according to a statement from the Waldoboro Fire Department.
Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer said the home, owned by Robin Pancygrau of Chelmsford, Mass., was destroyed. Pancygrau was not at home at the time.
The two injured people were taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Their names were being withheld.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are expected to return Friday morning to continue their investigation.
