LEWISTON — Two arson charges against a Wilton man were dismissed this week after he pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated criminal mischief.

Colton Webster, 26, was charged in February with setting fire Jan. 19 to his father’s garage on Fayette Road in Livermore Falls.

Under the plea deal reached in Lewiston District Court, Webster admitted to the aggravated criminal mischief charge under a deferred disposition that will last two years.

At the end of that period, if he has satisfied all the conditions of the deferral, he will be permitted to withdraw his guilty plea to the felony criminal mischief and plead to a charge of criminal mischief.

Those conditions include mandatory monthly counseling; no possession of incendiary devices, except as may be needed for work; and that he submit to random searches and pay $683.75 in restitution to the Livermore Falls Fire Department.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Webster set fire to cardboard and clothing in his father’s garage and then called 911.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire in the building, according to Livermore Falls Fire Chief Edward Hastings IV. Firefighters from several departments extinguished the fire in about five minutes.

Webster is scheduled to appear in Lewiston District Court again June 24, 2020, for consideration of the change in plea.
