LEWISTON — Police are investigating at least two storefront windows that were shot out by a BB or pellet gun Wednesday night along Lisbon Street.

Lewiston police spokesman David St. Pierre said Thursday that windows were damaged at Papa John’s at 850 Lisbon St. and Lewiston Redemption Center at 700 Lisbon St.

He said police reports are not yet complete, but that “it appears the damage may have been caused by a BB or pellet.”

Another report, at Rent-a-Center, was not the result of a BB gun, the store manager said.

According to St. Pierre, the reports came in between 9:45 and 10 p.m. Wednesday.

A separate incident reported Wednesday in Auburn is also under investigation.

According to Auburn Deputy Chief Jason Moen, the subject received a minor injury from being struck by a BB following a dispute after a parked car was hit by a baseball.

BB or pellet guns have reportedly been used during incidents in and around Kennedy Park in downtown Lewiston over the past few weeks.

Sun Journal sources who said they witnessed the events June 12, which led to the death of 38-year-old Donald Giusti that’s now under investigation, said the altercation began after teens in a car reportedly drove past the park and shot pellets or BBs at a group gathered there.

Despite the recent reports, St. Pierre said he does not believe there has been an uptick in incidents involving BB guns in Lewiston.

“The calls about BB guns, in my opinion, have remained pretty consistent over the years,” he said, adding that he reviews all complaints that come into Lewiston police.

“All of the calls are concerning for us, particularly when property is damaged, and more concerning when someone is injured as a result of reckless conduct.”
