LEWISTON — The Dempsey Center has announced its programming schedule for July. Programs are free to those affected by cancer.

ONE-TIME PROGRAMS

Chill Out with Summer Soups: 2 to 3:30 p.m. July 20. The class will feature chilled and nourishing soups. Limited to 25. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Mini Spa: 6 to 7 p.m. July 11. Enjoy a warm foot soak and hand treatment in a peaceful atmosphere. Limited to four. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Dehydrating Herbs: 1 to 4 p.m. July 16 and 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 17. The class will include prepping and dehydrating herbs from the Dempsey Center Community Garden on Monday and processing and packaging to take home on Tuesday. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Open Art Studio for Youth: 1 to 4 p.m. July 17, 24 and 31. Youth clients and their families and friends are welcome to drop in at any time during open art studio hours to explore, create and connect. No art experience required. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Nutrition for Life — Anticancer Diet Miniseries: 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 17 and 24. Explore diet strategies to prevent cancer. Each class will include cooking demonstrations and tasting opportunities. Limited to 25. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Tree of Life: 5:30 to 7 p.m. July 24. Explore and identify your roots. All supplies will be provided and no art experience is necessary. Appropriate for anyone impacted by cancer ages 16 and up. Limited to 12. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Coping with Anxiety and Depression after Prostate Cancer: 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 25, The interactive lecture and will include an exercise to allow participants to practice relaxation techniques. Appropriate for prostate cancer survivors and their loved ones. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

Ice Cream Social: 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 31. Meet center facilitators and learn about groups. Appropriate for anyone impacted by cancer, ages 16 and older. Preregistration required, call 207-795-8250.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

Monday Meditations: 4 to 4:45 p.m. first Monday of the month. Drop-in group meditation sessions. Brief instruction, followed by guided exercises designed to give participants a “sampling” of different types of meditation practices, including mindfulness, loving kindness and seasonal practices. No experience is necessary to attend. No registration required.

Dempsey Center Introductory Meeting and Tour: 3 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesdays and 3 to 3:45 p.m. Fridays. Preregistration requested. Other times available, including Saturdays, by appointment.

Fit For Life: 11 a.m. to noon Mondays. Under the guidance of a fitness instructor, the class will feature strengthening, balance, and flexibility exercise, combined with light to moderate movement. No registration required, drop-ins welcome.

Pilates Yoga: 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Merges the benefits of Pilates and yoga to develop core strength, tone muscles, increase flexibility and help reduce stress.

ONGOING, DROP-IN PROGRAMS

Yoga For Life. 11 a.m. to noon and 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays. A class for all fitness levels with a focus on range of motion movement and gentle stretching. No experience with yoga required. No registration required, drop-ins welcome.

YWCA Breast Cancer Encore Program: 6 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays. Lewiston-Auburn YWCA. Designed for those who have experienced breast cancer, consists of 30-minutes of warm water, gentle exercises designed to increase range of motion, muscle strength and enhance general fitness. Participants will also have free access to the YWCA pool and any lap, family swims or water fitness programs. Appropriate for breast cancer patients/survivors.

Teen Yoga: Fourth Thursday of the month. Instructor Tish Caldwell. Offered as part of Teen Group.

The center also offers services by appointment that include counseling, professionally recorded interviews, wigs and headwear consultations, bra fitting for mastectomy patients, acupuncture appointments, wellness, nutrition and fitness consultations, massage therapy and Reiki.
