AUBURN — Green Dot Lewiston-Auburn hosted a coffee meet-up for the community on June 1 in celebration of the temporary installation of the Green Dot L-A quilt in Auburn. The Green Dot L-A quilt is a mixed-media work of art created by a group of local quilters who are committed to the mission of Green Dot L-A.

The quilt consists of fabric, stitching, buttons, beads and handwritten affirmative statements around its border. The quilt has previously been on display at Bangor Savings Bank, the Lewiston Library and Auburn Hall and works to bring the message of the Green Dot movement to the greater Lewiston-Auburn community.

The coffee meet-up was also an opportunity for Green Dot L-A to share with the community what the organization has accomplished since the official launch in March of this year. Green Dot L-A was joined by 18 people in conversations about their work to offer free-of-cost bystander intervention trainings to businesses and community groups throughout Lewiston-Auburn. Trainings provide participants with safe, effective strategies to reduce harassment, assault, and interpersonal violence.

The Green Dot L-A quilt will be at Starbucks in Auburn throughout the month of June with information about bystander intervention trainings. For more information on how to get involved, email info@greendotla.org.
