AUBURN — Rita M. Morin, 83, of Auburn passed away at home Thursday, June 28, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Auburn on May 5, 1935, a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Rose (Therriault) Morissette. On Aug. 28, 1955, she married the love of her life, Henry Morin.
She worked in the local shoe shop at New England Counter in Auburn as a waxer for several years until Henry’s untimely death in 1971, where she then stayed home to raise their young family. Rita had two major passions in life: her faith and her family. As a devout member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn, she belonged to the Golden Age Club, choir and also served as a CCD teacher for 14 years, sharing in the love of Jesus.
Rita enjoyed playing bingo, cribbage, cards — especially scat — darts and bowling. Her greatest joy in life, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, and in her later years with her great-grandchildren.
Rita is survived by two children, Claire Giasson of Auburn, Robert Morin of Auburn; seven grandchildren: John, Paul, Lisa, Jeremy, Nicole, Allison and Aryn; three great-grandchildren: Johnathan, Karlee and Jeremy Jr.; two sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry Morin, in 1971; her brother, Maurice Morissette; and her son-in-law, Lawrence Giasson.
The family would like to thank the Androscoggin Home Healthcare team, especially Tammy, Michelle and Ryan, for the outstanding devotional care provided to Rita and the support they gave the family.
You are invited to offer your condolences and share fond memories with the family by visiting Rita’s guestbook at wwwthefortingroupauburn.com.
