LEWISTON — Organist Randall Mullin will perform Olivier Latry’s 2007 composition “Salve Regina” at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The production will include Leon Griesbach singing Gregorian chant intonations.

Mullin, familiar to Basilica concert-goers, is a native of Georgia. He currently resides in Southern Maine and tours extensively.

The “Salve Regina” or “Hail Holy Queen” is an ancient Marian hymn, traditionally sung in Latin. Within the Catholic tradition, the hymn can be traced to the monastic practice on intoning it after evening prayers, or compline.

Local, national and international performers visit the Basilica to perform, both on the historic organ and with other musical instruments. Selections range from Bach to contemporary compositions. The series is divided between Wednesday noon concerts and evening performances. The noon concerts begin on July 11 and extend weekly through Aug. 8. Evening concerts are scheduled on various dates through Oct. 4.

Concerts are free and open to the public and donations to the organ restoration project are welcome. FMI, contact Scott Vaillancourt by phone at 207-240-9419 or email Scott.Vaillancourt@portlanddiocese.org.
