OXFORD — A section of Route 26 was shut down for almost four hours Tuesday morning after four people and a dog were injured in a three-vehicle accident near Roopers Beverage & Redemption, according to Oxford Police Officer Zane Loper.

George Treamer, 45, of New Hampshire was driving southbound in a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox with his wife, Katie, when he struck a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek driven by John Raymond, 52, of Poland, who was crossing from the northbound lane into the southbound lane, Loper said.

A tractor-trailer driven by Gurmett Gill, 39, of Ottawa, Canada, struck the back of Raymond’s vehicle, according to Loper.

“(Gill’s) front tire blew and the tractor-trailer truck ended up going off the road into a nearby field,” Loper said. “It almost went into the Roopers parking lot.”

The Treamers were taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, while Raymond was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

“There were some broken bones involved, but there were no life-threatening injuries to anybody,” Loper said.

He said a dog was ejected from Raymond’s Subaru.

“The dog was taken to the Poland Veterinary Clinic, and we just heard that the dog is going to be OK,” Loper said.

Loper that the accident is still under investigation and he’s not sure of the cause.

Route 26 was shut down from 11:20 a.m. to 3 p.m., Loper said.
