PARIS — The Board of Selectmen voted Monday night to allow Parks and Recreation Director Shannon Moxcey to host a movie night at Moore Park.

Moxcey told the board residents often say they would like Parks and Recreation to offer such an activity.

“I know that the library tried to do it,” Moxcey said, “but found it was very expensive for licensing and to have a technician come down and run everything.”

A Bangor business has submitted an $1,800 quote for hosting a movie night, while a South Portland company quoted $2,000.

“Then, a local citizen gave me the name of John Mayhan (of West Poland), who could host a movie night,” Moxcey said.

“John told me he has a selection of movies at home, and if we want to see a movie that he doesn’t have, he’ll buy it and include it in his price.”

Mayhan’s quote came in at $275, “including popcorn,” Moxcey said.

Selectman John Andrews described 275 as “an amazing price.”

“I think it’ll be a lot of fun,” Moxcey said, “and at least we can say that we tried to host one.”
