LEWISTON — The Bates Dance Festival presents Rennie Harris PureMovement performing their show “Lifted” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, at Schaeffer Theatre, 329 College St., Lewiston. A gala reception precedes Friday’s performance.

Harris is known for taking hip hop dance from the inner city to a mainstream audience. Delving into the tapestry of house music and dance, “Lifted” explores tensions between self-determination and family, religion and society.

Harris’ residency includes a lecture/demo on the history of hip hop on Wednesday, July 18, and Inside Dance Community Discussions on Monday, July 16, at Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris and Thursday, July 19, at Auburn Public Library.

Tickets for the July 20 gala are $60. Tickets for the shows are $25 for adults, $18 for seniors and $12 students. Tickets and FMI: batesdancefestival.org.
