LISBON — A boy was treated for smoke inhalation after he and his brother escaped a mobile home fire at 3 Marc Drive on Wednesday morning, Fire Chief Nate LeClair said.

The fire was reported at 7:48 a.m.

LeClair said that when he arrived, smoke was coming from every window and fire was flaring from the back of the trailer.

Two children were home when the fire broke out.

“One of the kids tried going back in to get the dog and thankfully the neighbors pulled the kid out before he got into any more trouble,” LeClair said.

The boy suffered some smoke inhalation.

The dog came out of the house on its own.

The two boys live in the home with their grandmother, whom Lisbon police said had left for work when the fire started. She took her grandchild with smoke inhalation to the hospital to be checked out.

LeClair said the home is a total loss. The American Red Cross will offer assistance to the family.

At the scene Wednesday morning, LeClair said he didn’t know the cause of the fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was responding to the scene to help investigate the cause. LeClair said he believes the fire started in the back bedroom.

Because there wasn’t enough manpower initially, the first crew could only fight the fire from the exterior. Additional firefighters responded from Lewiston, Durham and Topsham.

The construction of the home also posed a challenge for firefighters. A roof was built over the original one, allowing fire to travel between the two.
