A 19-year-old Florida man was found dead in Casco Bay near Peaks Island after he was reported missing Sunday from Great Diamond Island, police said.
Maxwell Brown, of Boca Raton, Florida, was reported missing and possibly having a medical crisis at about 7 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Portland Police Department.
Residents, game wardens and officers from the Maine Marine Patrol and Portland police and fire departments searched for him, but the search was called off about 1 a.m. Monday because of poor weather and visibility.
Brown’s body was found at 7:14 a.m. in the water by two private vessel operators, who reported the discovery to the marine patrol and U.S. Coast Guard.
Brown’s body was to be taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office to undergo an autopsy, police said.
Police spokesman Lt. Robert Martin said investigators do not suspect foul play, and that Brown was visiting friends when he disappeared.
