JAY — The Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335, AMVETS Lane Dube Post 33 and American Legion Post 10, and their auxiliaries will hold a short public Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the VFW Post, 64 Jewell St.
The public is welcome. Area residents, businesses and organizations who have soiled or worn U.S. flags are encouraged to bring them to the ceremony.
The Flag Retirement Ceremony is performed in accordance with the Federal Flag Code.
According to VFW Post 3335 Commander John Dube, “Unfortunately, many of our citizens don’t know what to do with old flags, or don’t know who to reach out to for proper retirement of their flags.”
To have a flag picked up, contact Ricky Merrill in Jay at 207-446-3088, or Jim Manter in Livermore at 207-500-2603.
