HALLOWELL — The Harlow presents “Enjoy The Hue,” a solo exhibition of artwork by artist Bruce Mayo of Hallowell, on view from Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, at 100 Water St. in Hallowell. The public is invited to attend the opening reception and meet the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3.

“Enjoy The Hue” marks Bruce Mayo’s 30-year anniversary of creating whimsical, ethereal, playful art with a twist. Acrylic, watercolor and inks are used to create mystical images revolving around musicians, pups, portraits, fish, landscapes and more. Since his first official public art showing in 1988 at Slates Restaurant, Mayo has remained very prolific. He is constantly inspired by his surroundings; including frequent trips to Rangeley and especially by his home town of Hallowell. The exhibition features no shortage of color and spirit as Mayo’s artwork covers both floors of The Harlow. Mayo has dedicated the exhibition to his late grandmother Jeanette, “whose easel in the spare bedroom always had a painting on it when I visited,” he said.

The Harlow is a membership based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to connecting and celebrating art, artists and community in downtown historic Hallowell since 1963. Exhibitions are always free and open to the public. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
