Society to hear about Bridgton schools

HARRISON — The Harrison Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Museum on Haskill Hill Road.

The topic will be the history of Bridgton Academy and Bridgton High School.

Hazardous Waste Day Aug. 4

NORWAY — Norway Paris Solid Waste will collect hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 4.

West Paris Society elects officers

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society elected offers during its dessert-only meeting on June 16.

Calender winners were also selected. Contact the Society for a list of winners. Proceeds will benefit the upkeep of the building and museum. 

The museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 5, 19 and 26.

The August meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20. The meeting will include a potluck and Elaine Emery will walk all guests and members through the museum upstairs.

Socrates Cafe talking nuclear option

BRIDGTON — Socrates Cafe will meet at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Bridgton Community Center.

The discussion topic will be “Should the ‘Nuclear Option’ (a Simple Majority) Be an Option for Congress?” Larry Flaherty will moderate.

Following the meet and greet, the talk will go from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

Churches plan ice cream social

NORWAY — St. Catherine of Sienna Church and Christ Episcopal Church will hold their annual ice cream social Monday, Aug. 6, on the grass outside St. Catherine of Sienna Church on Paris Street.

Entertainment will be provided by Alan de Silva. Tickets are $5 each and free for children under the age of 10. Tickets can be purchased at the event.

This is a rain or shine event. It will be held downstairs at St. Catherine’s if the weather does not cooperate. Those attending should bring their own chair.

Proceeds from this event will go to the Clergy Association to help local people in need.

Fitness class offered to seniors

NORWAY — Healthy Oxford Hills has announced that Moving Freely, a free exercise class for older adults, will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays, Aug. 6 to 21, at the Norway Town Office at 19 Danforth St.

The exercises have been designed to achieve the full range of movement and develop flexibility, agility, coordination, balance and strength.

The class will be taught by Mitzi Sequoia, a certified fitness instructor for seniors, who has additional training in CPR, AED and First Aid.
