Heather Pierson Trio and Ordinary Elephant at Deertrees Theatre

HARRISON — The Heather Pierson Acoustic Trio and Ordinary Elephant will perform in a double bill at Deertrees Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.

Based nearby in the Mount Washington Valley, the Heather Pierson Acoustic Trio are three musicians from three distinct generations and backgrounds, bringing their skills and down-to-earth honesty to bear on original songs and choice covers that bring to life the sounds of the streets of New Orleans and the valleys of Appalachia. With their “traveling music store” of instruments, this trio delivers heartfelt music with brilliant musicianship, stellar three-part vocals harmonies and earthy charm.

Their latest CD, “Singin’,” released in June 2017, debuted at No. 1 on the folk radio charts and was the No. 11 album for the year. The trio is: Heather Pierson (lead vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, tenor banjo, ukulele, melodica), Davy Sturtevant (cornet, dobro, acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmony vocals) and Shawn Nadeau (bass, harmony vocals). Together, these seemingly disparate voices draw on their respective experiences of the American musical voice — jazz, blues, folk — to create a unique and memorable experience.

International Folk Music Awards 2017 Artist of the Year Ordinary Elephant captivates listeners with their well-honed combination of insightful writing, effortless harmonies and intertwined clawhammer banjo and guitar. The collaboration of husband and wife, their connection and their influences (such as Gillian Welch, Guy Clark, Anais Mitchell) all meet on stage.

Crystal and Pete Damore have been performing together since 2011, when they called Texas home. The two took to full-time nomadic life with their dogs in 2014, and are still finding home and music wherever they go. The duo was both a Kerrville New Folk Finalist and Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist in 2017, and their release “Before I Go” was No. 7 on the Folk DJ Chart for the year.
