DARE game featuring former Patriots

LISBON — The Lisbon Police DARE Program is selling tickets to a flag football game between Lisbon police officers and former New England Patriots team members. 

The event is a bi-annual fundraiser, and the program is seeking sponsorship from area businesses and residents. 

The game will kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Lisbon High School’s Thompson Field.

Maine Woodcarver’s Association competition

POLAND — The Maine Woodcarver’s Association will present the 2018 Woodcarving Show and Competition from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Poland Town Hall, 1231 Maine St.

Admission will be free. The event is open to the public.

Legion to note 6o-year membership

BUCKFIELD — Buckfield American Legion will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Post on Morrill Street to honor Merton Jones, who has been a member of the Legion for 60 continuous years.

Jones has been an active part of the post and even helped build the post home. He is past post commander and has held many other offices through the years. He is the unofficial service officer, calling on sick and recuperating members when possible.

Merton recently returned from a trip to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight Maine.

Friends and relatives are invited to stop by. Light refreshments will be served.

All veterans are invited to attend the open house, congratulate Merton, share some experiences, memorabilia and photos.

McAlister/McAllister reunion planned

PARIS — The McAlister/McAllister reunion will be held at noon Sunday, Aug. 12, at the First Baptist Church of Paris on Paris Hill.

Those attending should bring a lunch; beverages and dessert will be furnished. They should also bring memorabilia to share.
