RUMFORD — U.S. Sen. Angus King met with business and community leaders in Farmington and Rumford on Tuesday to discuss their efforts to invest in their local communities.

In Rumford, King met with new leadership at ND Paper, a subsidiary of Nine Dragons Paper of Hong Kong. ND Paper is the new owner of the former Catalyst Paper mills.

The independent senator then visited the business Island, where Town Manager Linda-Jean Briggs led a tour along Congress Street to spotlight progress of the $5.9 million infrastructure project to replace water and sewer lines, partially funded by a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant.

The project includes replacement of sewer and storm systems under several streets on the Island, along with extensive sidewalk work and other improvements.

Gary Violette, on-site inspector for the downtown infrastructure project, said the project has a “substantial” completion date of Nov. 15 and a final completion date of Dec. 15.
