NEW AUBURN — Douglas N. Pettengill Jr., 59, of New Auburn passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Aug. 4. He was born in Portland on Dec. 3, 1958, the son of Douglas N. Pettengill Sr. and Barbara C. (Maloney) Crandall.

Doug acquired his education in Auburn, and proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1976, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and made lance corporal. He was employed by the Auburn Municipal Airport, Cianbro Corp., the Turner transfer station and was self-employed with various carpentry projects. Doug enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, telling stories, helping friends or family and playing the harmonica.

Survivors include two sons: Paul Pettengill and Jason Giguere of Turner; three daughters: Amanda Pettengill of Livermore Falls, Jenny Byron of Turner and Michele Parker of Jay; a sister, Barbara M. Gabri, and brother-in-law, Joey Gabri, of Greene; niece, Krysten Gabri, of Monmouth; nephew, Capen N. Gabri, of Greene; grandchildren: Nicholas, Matthew, Luke, Carter, Alyssa, Erwin, Aliyah, Logan, Lexi and Kaleb.

Doug was predeceased by his father, Douglas; mother, Barbara; grandmother, Violet; and daughter, Nichole (Nikki) Byron.

He will be remembered as an independent hard-worker who dedicated his time and energy to his family.
