Olde Home Day is such a huge event here. I wonder if people realize the amount of work that goes on prior to an event that all hinges on the weather which this year, let’s face it, was not ideal and still people came out. Thanks to all who supported us with their presence in less than ideal conditions. Prior to the event a group of citizens loosely known as the Andover Garden Club spruced up the plantings at the tennis court, the Town Hall and the Common and they all look beautiful. Our continued thanks to Julie Gribbon for the initial gift of these perennials when she closed her business a few years ago. The week before the parade I looked out my back window, which faces Foster Tabb’s back yard, to find the barrel train being readied for children to ride in. Meanwhile the town crew was busy repairing the swings at the tennis courts, so small and not so small children could safely try them out.

While I was in the hospital some good soul went and got my mail for me and I found there was an informational meeting scheduled on the 15th to discuss several items that will be brought before the town at the Town Meeting on Aug. 25. That meeting will be held at 8 AM. The informational Meeting was on Wednesday Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall. Under discussion were the following items important to the functioning of our Town: Roads improvement project and financing for same, the Comsat Trust Fund, an update on the reevaluation and schedule for completion, The Town-Hall clock and Town Hall sprinkler system, Transfer Station changes and recycling, fire truck acceptance by the town, and FEMA matching funds. There will also be an article to transfer funds from the land purchase account to designated highway equipment. These items are all necessary and this pre-meeting will help inform the community and keep discussion at the meeting down, that is if the voters inform themselves and come prepared with the necessary information to make wise and prudent decisions. This pre-meeting should help in passing articles. Remember it’s Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall—be there, it’s important.

The next and last Andover Summer Concert Series will be on Friday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. featuring the Robinson Family.

I hope to have more town news next week when I’m out and about again.
