LIVERMORE FALLS — The Frantasia Festival of Out Music and Arts returns to Fitness Stylz, 7 p.m. to midnight, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, Aug. 23 – 25. Donations are suggested for each evening.

Sixteen individuals or groups will perform during the festival. Six are new this year with several from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Asimina Chremos is one of the returning acts. As a dancer and a visual artist, her work is rooted in the structured techniques she learned through formal ballet training as well as the study of symmetrical patterning found in traditional lace and doilies.

Her dance practice evidences early years of training in ballet technique, followed by studies and practice in modern and postmodern dance.

New acts this year have a variety of backgrounds and artistic expressions.

Diane Randlett of Southport, Maine, has played the clarinet since childhood. She was a student of Nanine Hammond and James Footer, Bath Community Band Leader.

“It has been an amazing experience to play with and for other people. Music is a beautiful language. When we participate in the art of music, we all speak the same language,” she said.

Sandy Ewen is an experimental guitarist, artist and architect who has recently relocated to New York City from Houston, Texas. She has released a duo album with Weasel Walter and played numerous gigs in Texas, New York, Toronto and elsewhere this year.

TK is comprised of Thalia Zedek on abstract guitar and clarinet; Phil Milstein on loops, drone and banging; Heather Kapplow on electronic pling-plong, voices and banging. They will be playing improvised noise music.

Zedek said Kapplow will play the pling-plong, a new instrument no one has heard.

Will Helmke came to Frantasia in 2008 or2009 while attending University of Maine Augusta studying music.

“Frantasia flipped me out and made me a better person, helped strengthen my personal connection to music and life and people,” he said.
