AUBURN — Three candidates will vie for an open seat on the Androscoggin County Commission to represent Poland, Mechanic Falls and part of Auburn.
Interim Commissioner Raymond Lafrance of Poland, a member of the Libertarian Party, will face Terri Kelly Stankiewicz, a Republican from Mechanic Falls, and Shannon M. Dalton, a Democrat from Poland, in November for the District 6 seat.
The deadline for political parties to caucus and nominate a candidate was Thursday.
Zakk Maher of Poland resigned from the commission last month to become town manager of Mechanic Falls, leaving two years on his four-year term. Since Maher is a Libertarian, that party had the power to select a replacement to serve until the next election. Lafrance began his duties two weeks ago.
Androscoggin County voters in November will also select commissioners in four other districts.
District 2 (Lewiston): Democrat John Butler vs. Republican Melissa Simones Landry;
District 3 (Greene, Durham and part of Lewiston): Republican Brian Ames of Lewiston is unopposed;
District 5 (Auburn): Independent John Michael vs. incumbent Bonney Starbird, a Democrat;
District 7 (Leeds, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Minot, Turner): incumbent Sally Christner of Turner, a Republican, is unopposed.
Commissioners Melissa Willette of District 2 and Matthew Roy of District 3 are not running for re-election.
The other two commissioners — Lewiston resident Noel Madore of District 1 and Isaiah Lary of District 4, which covers Lisbon, Sabattus and Wales — are not up for re-election until 2020.
