I have noticed, during my last ailment, that whether it is the doctor’s, institution’s, insurance company’s or government’s regulations, the first approach to providing medical services to patients is a quick shuffle and grab the money.
As I get closer to death, I find that the care process seems to be always getting kicked down the road until the very end comes.
I would suggest that more consideration be given to patients’ emotional, spiritual and physical comfort, including pain control, prior to their final days and hours.
